He later graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a degree in Geographic Information Systems. He managed a service station with his dad and later worked several years at Cenex Land O’ Lakes in sales and service. He retired from Noren Transport as a mechanic and bus driver. Steve’s family was his life. He married his soulmate Rae Delle (Berzinski) on September 4, 1982 and together they were blessed with four wonderful daughters; Amy (Jeff) Swanson, Bethany (Janine) Nelson-Gallo, Cala (JC) Poppe, and Dana (Ryan) Wolfe. He loved his grandchildren with his whole heart; Rayna, Jaren, Salem, Brody, Reagan, Elliot, Miles, and Reece. Steve is also survived by his brother Rick (Lisa) Nelson and in-laws; June, Rita (Bruce), Lynn (Mike), Peggy (Gary), Butch (Pam), Mark (Heidi), Betsy (Mike), Brian (Rachel), Marie, Linda and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was the best “grand-daddy” to Wendy Grace. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings; Mike Nelson and Ruth Ann “Tuti” Nelson. Steve was quiet and gentle, with a quick wit and great sense of humor which will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 21st from 1-5 pm at The Town of Preston Hall, 1102 E. Broadway St. Blair. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Blair-Preston Fire Department & First Responders, Gundersen Tri-County Memorial Hospital Foundation, and the Rita Tranberg Memorial.
