James Frank Groth 1946-2021 Jim age 75 died having completed all his tasks on earth. Angels came on 11-12-2021 to take him to his Heavenly reward after an acute onset of medical issues with complications. Born on 01-22-1946. His parents Delbert and Virginia owned and operated Groth's store, which his grandfather Frank Groth had started. He taught swimming lessons and worked as a lifeguard at Silver Lake beach for many years. Jim graduated from UW Stevens Point with a master's degree. He was the first male teacher hired by the Wausau School District for elementary education, retiring after 34 years. He then delivered flowers for a local flower store. He was married to his soul mate Sharon (Murphy) Groth for 26 years. They met at their 30th class reunion for Portage High School. Jim loved Northern Wisconsin where he and his son built a 2-bedroom cabin. He was an avid hunter and fisherman! He enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, Brewers, UW Madison sports and the Milwaukee Bucks. He was a former football and basketball player himself. He leaves behind with great pride his children. Son Shannon/ Heather Furtney, her daughter Maddie, Eden Prairie MN grandsons Mason and Michael Groth. Daughter Shellie Nelson/ Jim Niswonger Penn Valley CA and grandson Alex Nelson New York. Twin sister Jean Ellis of Portage WI, nieces Wendy/Ryan Rysewyk and Heidi Low/Matt Staudenmaier. Ann Marie (Groth) Work mother of his children. His stepchildren Erick and Shayne, granddaughters Kiran and Darra Staley Lake Oswego OR, Tara Staley Phoenix AZ, Keith and Kevin Staley Green Valley AZ. Everyone who knew him, with his smile, generous giving heart, sense of humor, people really enjoyed Jim. He and Sharon moved in 2016 to AZ for the weather and the beauty of the Southwest and meeting wonderful friends. Life given by Nature is short, but the memory of a life well spent is Eternal. Thank you for being such a great part of our lives, until we meet again dear Jim RIP. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m.on Saturday July 9, 2022, at the St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, WI Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
