Eugene Kindschy Obituary

Eugene Wesley Kindschy, 76, of Whitehall, passed away February 24th, 2024, at the Pigeon Falls Heathcare Center, while being comforted by family and friends.   Gene was born April 2nd, 1947, in Winona, MN, to Ralph and Gertrude (Becker) Kindschy. Gene was the youngest of six boys and in his early childhood grew up on a farm in the Town of Montana in Buffalo County. Several years later, the Kindschy family bought a farm on Hwy. 53 in the Town of Preston in Trempealeau County, where Gene lived his adolescent years. Gene went on to graduate from Blair High School in 1965.   Gene began his professional career with Olson LP in Blair, but soon thereafter found his passion for dairy farming. He began farming with his dad and then eventually took over the family farm – which he owned and operated for 30 years. Before retirement, Gene was employed by the Town of Preston as a patrolman. He also generously contributed his time to several meaningful causes, including as a board member for the Blair-Taylor School District, a delegate for Associated Milk Producers Inc., an officer for Future Farmers of America, a volunteer for the Blair Cheese Festival tractor pull and a long-time coordinator for the Blair Cheese Festival poker run fundraiser.   Gene often times said it was a good day if he was able to get out riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He always looked forward to the annual trip out west on the motorcycles with a group of his closest friends, creating a lifetime of stories and memories. In addition to riding his Harley, Gene enjoyed deer hunting, watching and reading westerns, cheering on the state and local sports teams and spending time with his family and friends.   Gene will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather who was a beloved role model with a kind heart. He was always there to lend a helping hand when asked and so many are proud to call him a friend.   Gene is survived by his wife of 30 years and the love of his life, Tammy, of rural Whitehall; five children: Dean (Jane) Kindschy of Pleasantville, Kent (Deb) Kindschy of Turtle Lake, Kelli (Rob) Schmitt of Turtle Lake, David (Karri) Greenwold of Hartland and Aaron (Miranda) Greenwold of Whitehall; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Willfred of rural Osseo and Carroll (Carol) of Wausau; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also lovingly survived by his loyal best friend, Randy Tollefson of Whitehall, and his chocolate Labrador companion, Fred.   In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by three brothers: LaVerd, Gerald and David; three sisters-in-law: Bernice, Janet and Essie; a nephew, Curtis; and several great friends who left us too soon.   The Kratz Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family with arrangements. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 2nd from 12pm-4pm at the Preston Town Hall in Blair.   Gene’s family extends gratitude and appreciation to the Pigeon Falls Healthcare Center and St. Croix Hospice for the exceptional care he received.
