Obituary

WILLIAM RAYMOND RAMME William Raymond "Bill" Ramme, age 88 years, of Oxford, died on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Tivoli in Portage.  He was born on October 8, 1923 in Hurley, WI to Anton and Clara (Ness) Ramme. Bill worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps before he enlisted on June 9, 1942 in the United States Army serving in Luzon and New Guinea in the Pacific Theatre where he received numerous distinctions until his discharge March 9, 1946.  On October 16, 1948 he was united in marriage to Dolores Mollard in Ironwood, MI.  Bill worked in Milwaukee for the TL Smith Company before retiring to the Big Springs area.  He was a lifelong member of VFW Post # 1580 in Hurley.  He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.  Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years - Dolores of Oxford, 2 children - Bruce (Linda) Ramme of Okauchee, WI and Gail (Todd) Benz of Portage; 4 grandchildren - Adam (Joy) Ramme, Austin Ramme, Katie (Brad) Kennedy and Mindy Benz; 3 great grandchildren - Gunner Kennedy, Clara Kennedy and Johnathan Ramme; sister - Ann Nelmark of Ironwood, MI and other nieces, nephews and other relatives.  He was preceded in death by a daughter - Colleen, parents, 6 brothers - Arthur, John, Harvey, Herbert, Carl and Clarence and 2 sisters - Rhoda and June. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 1:30 PM at the Portage United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Countryman officiating followed by military rites performed by the Portage Area Veterans.   Friends may call at the church on Saturday from Noon until 1:30 PM.   Memorials may be made to the Portage United Methodist Church.  Service Details.
