Obituary

William Joye "Bill" Monson, age 84 years, of Portage died on Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Columbia County Health Care in Wyocena. He was born on January 12, 1927 in Menomonie, WI to Joye and Vera (Schultz) Monson. Bill graduated from Portage High School in 1944, attended a semester at Beloit College, enlisted in the United States Navy and upon being discharged returned to Beloit College from which he graduated in 1949, later receiving his masters and doctorate degree from the University of Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Doris Scherbert on December 26, 1949. Bill lived in Elgin, IL from 1953 - 1992 where he was Director of the Animal Nutrition Lab for Borden Milk. He was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Elgin. Bill moved back to Portage in 1993 where he was a very active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, serving in the choir, Sunday school and as a witness to Christ. Survivors include His Loving Wife of 61 years, Doris of Portage; Son - Tom (Linda) Monson of Bloomington, IL; 2 Grandchildren - Tracy (Mark Gaspar) Monson of Chicago and Andy Monson of Chicago, and a Brother - John Monson of Troy, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, Portage with Rev. Alan Boeck and Rev. Dan Kelm co-officiating. Burial will follow at the Silver Lake Cemetery, Portage. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9 AM until 11 AM.
