Obituary

Troy Dennis Sigmund, age 65, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at American Way Assisted Living, in Portage, WI from cancer. He was born in Medford, WI on Dec. 15, 1948 to Edward and Dolores (Gengler) Sigmund.  Troy served in Vietnam from 1968-1969 then was stationed at Fort Hood in Texas. In January of 1969 he married Bonnie Butke. They were blessed with three children and their marriage lasted 28 years.  After leaving the military he worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Company. His love of Texas, and friends made there, remained with him throughout his life. Troy had an adventurous, entrepreneurial spirit and did not like staying in one place for very long.  He owned or partnered in several industries including: farming, restaurant ownership, realtor, men's clothing store owner, book store owner, and picture framing. His longest lasting and most successful undertaking was his family run sewing machine repair business, A Stitch-N-Time, based in Whitewater from 1983 to 1997. After he sold this to his son, Cody, in 1997, he bought a camper and explored the U.S. mainly staying in Nevada and Texas. In 2006, he returned to Wisconsin to help his son with the business and three weeks later suffered a stroke paralyzing him on the left side. This led to an early retirement in an assisted living facility in the Dells/Portage area where he spent the rest of his life enjoying his history movies, playing chess and telling life stories. He is survived by his ex-wife, Bonnie Butke of Whitewater, children: Cody (Jennifer) Sigmund of Janesville, DeAnna Sigmund of Menomonee Falls, and Chad Sigmund of Whitewater; five grandchildren: Britany, Andrea, Trevor, Courtney and Tyler; one great-grandchild: Sophia; two brothers: Edward (Barbara) Sigmund and Jeffrey (JoEllen) Sigmund, both of Wisconsin Dells; two sisters: Mary (David) Kopas of Moyie Springs, ID and Christine (Roger) Kutz of Whitewater; and many nieces and nephews. Troy was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Larry and Gregory. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 25 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 315 Cherry St, Janesville, with Fr. Jim Kuhn officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be at the church from 10:30 - 11:00. Service Details. Visitation
