Marvin Russell "Stub" Grossman, age 81 years, of Portage died on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born on April 4, 1932 in the Town of Lewiston to Reuben and Margaret (Messer) Grossman. Stub has lived in Portage most of his life where he was a farmer, cement finisher for 25 years and was a semi-truck driver for 13 years. He was united in marriage to Mary Barton at the Portage Methodist Church on April 11, 1953. Stub was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Portage VFW Post # 1707, Portage American Legion Post # 47, enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, playing cards and going to Ho-Chunk. He proudly served in the United States Army Corps of Engineer during the Korean War. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Mary of Portage, daughter, Jean Grossman, son, John (Sara) Grossman of Portage, sister, Marie Millette of Portage, cat, Blackie, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Rena Crawford and Betty Klodt. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Portage with Rev. Dick Inglett officiating. Burial with military rites by the Portage area veterans will be held at 1:00 PM at the Greenwood Cemetery, Town of Lewiston.
