Steven D.
Monthey
August 8, 1965 – February 2, 2026
Steven Donald Monthey, 60, passed away unexpectedly on February 2, 2026, in Portage, Wisconsin. A gentle soul with a calm demeanor, Steve was known for his unwavering love for his family. He was a devoted son, brother, and uncle — roles he embraced with sincerity and care. Those who knew him will remember his steady presence and the quiet kindness that defined his interactions.
Steve found peace and joy in life's simple pleasures. He had a deep passion for fishing, a pastime that brought him both solitude and connection with nature. Whether casting a line into the water or sharing stories along the shore, fishing was more than a hobby — it reflected his thoughtful spirit. He also loved to cook and grill, always bringing something special to family gatherings and sparing no expense to share the very best with those he cared about. A loyal Green Bay Packers fan, he rarely missed the chance to cheer on his team.
Steve had a special place in his heart for animals and children. He delighted in their company, showing patience, warmth, and gentle affection that made them naturally gravitate toward him — a quiet testament to his compassionate nature.
Though soft-spoken, Steve's impact on those around him was profound. His loyalty and warmth left lasting impressions on family and friends alike. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire quiet acts of love and gentleness in the world.
Steve leaves behind his grieving mother, Annette Monthey; his siblings, Dianna Bush (Wayne), Marlene Tiede (Earl), Kathleen Koclanes (Phil), Valerie Kriewald (Dave), and Beth Davies (Bob); and his nieces and nephews: Amber (Koclanes) Thome, Aaron Koclanes, Tim Hepler, Tamara (Hepler) Pukowiec, Rebecca (Bush) Gramer, Mark Bush, Larry Tiede, Michal Tiede, Russell Tiede, Kayleena Koclanes, Jaden Koclanes, Jennifer (Kriewald) Dorn, Jonathon Kriewald, Laura Gramer, Olivia (Gramer) Grimh, Aric Bush, Kymbreli Bush, Emalynn Bush, and Addyson Bush — all of whom will miss his steady presence beyond measure. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Monthey; his sister, Luann (Rollie) Hepler; and his niece, Lura Beth Kriewald.
A memorial service for Steve will be held at the Kratz Funeral Home at 302 E. Conant St. in Portage at 11:00 a.m. on February 28, 2026. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
