Stella M. Scholes, age 84 years, of Monona and formerly of Portage, passed away Monday, May 3, 2010 at Heritage Monona after a recent diagnosis of cancer. She was born in Beloit, Wisconsin on June 23, 1925, the daughter of Emma (North) and Lewis Larson. She was united in marriage to Norman F. Scholes on June 23, 1943 in Briggsville, he preceded her in death on March 25, 2010. While raising her family, she also cared for several newborn foster children until permanent homes could be found for them. Over the years, she enjoyed many crafts, and most recently, she enjoyed new computer technology. Stella and Norman spent 20 years in Florida, returning to Portage in 2002. She is survived by her two children, Jim (Bea) Scholes and Marilyn (Jerry) Lehman, both of Madison, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother (Joe Larson), one sister (Beulah Kalvoda), and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers. Burial will be held in Moundville Cemetery, north of Portage, at a later date.
