Sonia Marie Zook, age 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Pardeeville, Wisconsin, on May 25, 2026, with her family by her side. Born on September 25, 1938, in Portage, Wisconsin, Sonia was the daughter of Arthur and Frances (Boeck) Roecker. 

Her life was marked by dedication to her loved ones, service to her community, and the simple joys of nature and family.

Sonia married Allan Zook Sr. on July 24, 1954, in a ceremony at St. John Lutheran Church in Portage. Together, they shared a lifetime of memories and partnership, including working together at the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. Sonia distinguished herself in various roles there—as a woman jailor, cook, and court bailiff—demonstrating her unwavering commitment and strength in her career.Beyond her professional achievements, she was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sonia was devoted to her family and known as a fantastic homemaker. 

Her home was a place of warmth and love, where she nurtured her children and grandchildren with boundless care. In recent years she enjoyed spending time with a much-loved stray cat, Boots, who adopted her. Sonia's interests were deeply rooted in the natural world and the simple pleasures it provided. She cherished gardening, cooking hearty meals, watching her birds with quiet delight, and embraced an adventurous spirit through travel and camping. These passions reflected her vibrant and loving character, leaving a lasting imprint on all who knew her. 

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Barbara (Charles) Stanley and Allan (Cindy) Zook; grandchildren Trina (Brian) Schultz, Nathan Simonson, Kelley (Devin) Bressers, Cassandra (Dustin) Sparks and Emma Zook; as well as great-grandchildren Ryan (fiancée McKenzie Brown) Schultz, Spencer (friend Paris Spencer) Schultz, Keira Schultz, Nathanel (fiancée Lexi Newman) Simonson, Jessalyn (friend Spencer Smith) Simonson, Declan Bressers, and her sister Sue (John) Hamel. Sonia’s extended family includes niece Vicki (Scott) Bublitz, grandnieces Meghan (Sam) Kelley, daughter Quinn, Melissa (fiancé Brody Sjoberg), Molly (AJ) Mueller and son Camron, and numerous other relatives and friends who cherished her presence in their lives.

Sonia is preceded in death by her husband Allan Sr., son Daniel Scott, her parents Arthur and Frances Roecker, Mother and Father-in Law Max and Annette Zook and Stepmother-in-law Clara, her brother-in-law Richard, and her great-grandson Mitchel Simonson. 

A visitation to honor Sonia’s memory will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 850 Armstrong Street, Portage, Wisconsin. This will be followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Rod Armon will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery.
