Obituary

Dateline: Endeavor/Oxford/Portage After 89 years of living life to the fullest, Ruth Cora (Jones) Sweney was welcomed into Heaven on April 29, 2015     Ruth was born on July 10, 1925 in Moundville, WI to Walter and Elizabeth (Topping) Jones.  She attended the Endeavor School where she met F. LeRoy Sweney.  They were married in July, 1944 at the Endeavor Congregational Church where they were both lifelong members.  LeRoy proceded Ruth in death September, 2001 after 57 years of marriage. Ruth worked on the Sweney family dairy farm outside of Endeavor.  Ruth retired from the Portage School District after many year of service at the old Endeavor Grade School.  Her responsibilities were to help serve the hot lunches and provide custodial services. She was also very active in her church and Eastern Star.  In retirement, Ruth and LeRoy moved to Crooked Lake in Oxford, WI.   They had a good time there with family  and friends.  Ruth loved to travel, play cards, and spend time with the grandkids. Survivors include one daughter:   Judy Nicholson, Wausau, WI,   one son: Carl (Jane Vik) Sweney,  Pardeeville, WI,  six grandchildren :    Rhonda (Jason) Conner,  Jason (Becca) Sweney,  Cliff Sweney,  Katrina Nicholson, Alexandra Nicholson, Todd Sweney, five step grandchildren,  Chad Clemmons, Angie Clemmons, Craig (Sue) Nicholson, Kim (Ian) MacInnes-green, Chris (Mark) Gohdes,  and fifteen great-grandchildren.  Ruth is also survived by two sisters, Jean Chappell and Edith Litsheim and sister in-laws, Anna Jones and Elaine Sweney along with many nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to her husband and parents,  Ruth was proceeded in death by her brothers:  Walter(Bud) Jones Jr.,  Douglas Jones  and brother-in-laws:  Carl  Sweney, Harold Sweney,  Kathryn Tessman, John Sweney,  Lester Chappell and Alvin Litscheim and son-in-law Theodore Nicholson. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015 at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Endeavor, WI. Rev. Julie Wilson will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 till time of service on Monday. The family would like to thank the kind staff and caregivers at Portage Heritage House for their compassionate care of Ruth.
