Raymond Gordon "Red" Schwanz, age 86 years of Whitewater and formerly of Portage, died on Monday, September 19, 2011 at the Fairhaven Health & Rehab Center in Whitewater. He was born on May 27, 1925 in Portage to Charles and Leone Schwanz. Red grew up in the Portage area, lived in Waukesha for 42 years, moved back to Portage for 7 years and has lived in Whitewater for the past 4 years. Raymond was united in marriage to Leona Gavinski on November 15, 1948 in Iron Mountain, MI. He was a self-employed salesman for the Print-O-Tape Company and enjoyed fishing, hunting, ice cream and enjoyed lots of boating. Red also served in the United States Navy during World War II as a radar operator. Survivors include Wife - Leona of Whitewater; 4 Children - Sharon (Don) Davidson of San Diego, Sally Cordio (Rick Hill) of Madison, William Schwanz (Marlene Ziegler) of Lafayette, LA and Sam (Brian) Schwanz-Gnatzig of Whitewater; 7 Grandchildren - Samantha, Max, Maggie, Chloe, Emily, Kelsey and Abby; 3 Great Grandchildren - River, Poet and Myra and 1 Sister - Eleanor (Mert) Russell of Endeavor. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother - Charles and a sister - Shirley Williams. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Picha Funeral Home, Portage with Father Jim Murphy officiating.
