Obituary

R. Paul Armson Dec. 10, 1930 - Dec. 24, 2016 Paul Armson, age 86, of Lewiston Township (Columbia County) died Dec. 24, 2016 at the Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena, WI after an extended stay.     Paul was born Dec. 10, 1930 at home on the Armson homestead in Big Springs, WI (Marquette County) to Merle and A. Neita (Learmonth) Armson.  He was the youngest of six children.  Christened Richard Paul Armson, he was always called Paul.  He married Lada Grunke 65 years ago on June 23, 1951 in Endeavor and had six children.    Paul worked and lived in many different states supporting his growing family:  Illinois, Texas, California, and Wisconsin.  The last 56 years were lived on his family farm in Lewiston Township.  He worked for Mashuda Contractors for many years on several Wisconsin road jobs, leaving the company as a trusted foreman to go into business for himself.  He was the proud owner of his own land clearing business. Customers frequently became friends and called him to come back regularly to do other jobs for them.  Because he loved to "make the earth move" and found his calling working in the dirt, he never retired.   Paul was a family man and a long-time member of the Briggsville United Methodist Church.  Over the years, he led the MYF youth group with Lada, taught gun safety, promoted good schools and representative government, ran for public office and was a proud member of LICA (Land Improvement Contractors of America). Along with Lada, they ran several land improvement exhibits and helped to build the membership in Wisconsin.    Paul was known for his tenor singing voice, his sense of humor, telling great stories, and for standing up for what he believed in. Paul loved music and he sang or whistled everywhere he went.  He also liked to fish, and enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada.  He made lasting friendships all over the country, many of them 60 years long.  Most recently, people will remember him giving out Reese's Peanut Butter cups to brighten people's day.  Through his business, LICA, the Learmonth family reunions and his activities around the state, he made lasting memories for his family, friends, neighbors and businesspeople. Paul is survived by the love of his life (Lada), all of his six children, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.  Children:  Blake L. (Joyce) Armson - Poynette, WI; Rossana Armson (Don Whitehurst) - Minneapolis, MN; Margene (Jim) Bauhs - Chaska, MN; Brenda (Glenn) DesJardin - Minneapolis, MN; Angela Armson (Mark Abitz) - Fond du Lac, WI; and Brent Armson - Portage, WI.   Grandchildren:  Stacey (Chris) Gorman; Jillian (Mel) Atkins; Gareth Armson; Cameron (Erica) Bauhs; Nathanial (Megan) Waters; and Allyssa (Chris) Kilhefner.
