Obituary

Phyllis June [Anderson] Wood passed away on April 9th, 2025 at Gundersen Health in LaCrosse, WI surrounded by family, friends, and so many loved ones.

Phyllis was born on June 1, 1941, to Norman and Evelyn Anderson on the family farm. She was one of eight children. She spent her early childhood on her family farm and attended school in Hegg.

The Anderson Sisters were very well known for their vocal talents. They would perform wherever nonexistent tickets were sold. Primarily in local nursing homes, churches, and community functions. Grandma Carrie was the "band manager" and kept the girls in tune, while Evelyn made sure they were always dressed to impress. Phyllis was no stranger to the stage or the microphone- she sang in every Christmas pageant, countless nights spent singing with the Thompson Boys- and once Aunt Roseann came into the family, they had a piano player on board and a band in the making.

Phyllis's love of music and poetry has not only carried her through her childhood, but it is also something that she truly enjoyed to her very last days. At the age of 17 she married the love of her life Ralph and into this union they were blessed with 5 beautiful children- Todd, Nancy, Becky, Chris, and Jason. They spent the majority of their lives on the Wood family farm in Galesville where Phyllis was very proud of her outdoor Christmas tree- at one point it shined brightly with more than 40,000 lights.

From the farm Phyllis was able to create and run a successful business making and selling lefse, donuts, cookies, and other Norwegian treats right there in the basement of the house. You could always find Phyllis whipping up something delicious at the house or serving up meals at the Sales Barn. She enjoyed quilting and was always busy making blankets to donate with her sisters- they have truly sent blankets all over the world.

Later in life Phyllis would go on to create Come for Supper- which is a community meal served on the third Sunday of every month at her church, Living Hope Lutheran Church in Ettrick. This is one of the things her family is most proud of her for, and one of Phyllis's greatest accomplishments.

For her contributions to her community Phyllis was awarded the Citizen of the Year award in Ettrick in 2012. Phyllis will always be remembered by everyone who was lucky enough to know and love her as the purest form of light. She was the kind of person who would do absolutely anything for anyone- especially if they were in need. She was quick witted and funny- known for her quick one liner… just like Ralph. However, you could never trust a Cool Whip container in her fridge…

She will be most missed by her children, grandchildren, great grands- she was the best at family gatherings and holidays. Bringing the family together with grocery bags full of Chicken in a Biscuit crackers and each of the kids favorites things.

Phyllis is proceeded in death by her parents, Norman and Evelyn Anderson. Her siblings Ralph (Jessie Pauline), Edgar, Roger (Roseanne), Dennis (Nancy), and brother-in-law Roger Dahl. Her loving husband of 60 years, Ralph and her son Todd, daughter in law Jennifer, and her grandson Donny.

She is survived by her siblings Charlotte, Norma (Gayle), Dena (Mark) and sister-in-law Doris Anderson, and her children Nancy (Jerry) Richer, Becky (Stubby) Johnson, Chris (Luann) Wood, Jason Wood, and daughter in law Grace Wood. Her grandchildren: Lacey (Chad), Jeremy (Savanna), Derek (Ashley), Phylicia (Tim), Kayla (Brandon), Chelsey (Dan), Crystal (Zach), Jacob (Sydney), Shelby (Jeff), Bryce (Hailee). And her great grandchildren: Rilan, Macie, Rykal, Waylon, Averie, Alexander, Benjamin, Norah, Lyllian, Emma, Louis, Dylan, Mae, Mox, and Anderson. She is further survived by her numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A celebration of life for Phyllis will be held at the Living Hope Lutheran Church Parish Center in Ettrick, WI on May 10th from 1pm-4pm.

There will be a time of prayer with Barb Knutson at 2pm.

The family invites you to the Wood Family Farm afterwards for casual refreshments and to share stories and memories with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider a donation in Phyllis's memory to Come for Supper, here in Ettrick- or Hunger Task Force of LaCrosse, WI.
