Obituary

Peter Dean Lakin, age 68, of Portage, WI, died on Monday, August 9, 2010 at his residence. He was born on January 1, 1942 in Milwaukee to Cecil and Doris (Stranney) Lakin. Pete grew up in Albuquerque, NM, before moving to La Crosse and eventually Madison. He spent the past 12 years in Portage. He worked in radio and television for almost 50 years and was an anchor at WMTV and WISC in Madison in the late 1960's and 1970's. Over the years he also worked in LaCrosse, Winona, Minneapolis, and in the Springfield/Branson, MO, area. He last worked in Portage as Pete Holliday, news director for the Magnum Radio Group - Mix 106.9, Bucky Country 95.9 and AM900 WIBU. Survivors include 4 Children - Peter Lakin of the Twin Cities, Julie (Dan) Brazee of Verona, Andrea (Chris) Malchow of Madison and Lindsay (Dan) Schuster of Marshall; 8 grandchildren - Michael and Chrissy Lakin, Kevin and Kyle Brazee, Christopher and Ryan Malchow and Jack and Wyatt Schuster. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Heather (Wilson) Tippery, and a granddaughter - Lexi Malchow. A celebration of Pete's life will be held at La Tolteca in Portage at 1 pm on Sunday, August 22, 2010. Graveside services for Pete will be held in LaCrosse at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 1 PM on Saturday, September 11, 2010. Service Details.
