Merlene S. Hanson age 79 of Blair, WI died on Thursday, September 24, 2015 in the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall, WI. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 in the Blair Lutheran Church East Building, Rev. Barbara Bruneau is officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 till 7 p.m. on Monday September 28, 2015 in the church and also one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Merlene was born on April 3, 1936 in Eau Claire, WI to Palmer and Agnes (Olson) Hjelsand. Merlene lived in Blair most of her life. She Married Lloyd Hanson on October 19, 1954 in the Blair First Lutheran Church.   Merlene sailed to Japan during the Korean War to see Lloyd. She loved to travel and also went to Norway 4 times to visit relatives. She and Lloyd shared a special love of music and dancing spending countless hours singing and dancing together.  She was employed for a number of years at the Pigeon Falls State Bank, and also worked   for the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire in the Copy Services Department. Merlene was very active in her community of Blair; she was a member of the Red Hat Ladies, and a leader in her church circle. Merlene is survived by four children; Melinda Ingold of Sun Prairie, WI; Leana (Chuck) Boehm of Rigby, ID; Lance (Donna) Hanson of EauClaire, WI; Matthew (Jess) Hanson of Rockford, IL; Ten Grandchildren; Tasha (Jeff) Kopplin; Michael Hanson; Lucas Hanson; Lesha (Heather) Ray; Elizabeth (Mike) Schmit; Ben Hanson; Lindsay Boehm; Andrew Boehm; Daniel Hanson and Tyler Hanson. Eight great-grandchildren; Lexie Boehm, Breleigh and Adalyn Kopplin, Nolan, Cole, and Baylor Hanson, Payton and Porter Schmit. Merlene is also survived by her Special "Sister" Pat Hanson. Merlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd (June 17, 2010), and two brothers Allan and Junior Hjelsand.
