Obituary

Mary Judith Strang (nee Tanke), age 87, born April 20, 1938 to William Tanke and Hattie Albrecht Tanke, was called home to heaven on January 24, 2026. She is survived by her daughter Susan (Gary) Voigt, son Kevin (Kathleen) Wruck, and daughter Janell (Randy) Dorn; grandchildren Alex (Mallory) Dorn, Brooke (Jacob) Batterman, and Hannah Dorn (significant other Braxton Brown); and great-grandchildren Murphy, Xander and Stella Dorn; Levi and Sawyer Batterman. She is further survived by her goddaughter Kristin (Roger) Hamilton, her former husband William Strang, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother William Tanke; sisters Joan Tanke, Marjorie Knuteston and Helen Kindschi; and brother-in-law James Kindschi.

Mary enjoyed music and shared her love for music with others through playing and teaching piano. She worked as a CNA at Beaver Dam and UW Hospitals and in various nursing homes. Later she took pleasure in caring for many children in her home. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, fishing and going to the casinos. She was known for her delicious baked goods and enjoyed sharing her baking skills with her grandchildren. Mary loved celebrating all the holidays, especially Christmas.

The family wishes to express our gratitude to the Brighton Hospice personnel and staff at Hattie's Bay (formerly Sage Meadow) who cared for her in her final months.
