Mary Elizabeth Baxter Poole, 93, passed away unexpectedly on September 22, 2015 in her home in Garden City, New York. Mary was born in Portage, Wisconsin to George and Mabel Baxter on August 27, 1922. After serving as an Army Nurse in WW II, she married George T. Poole II and has resided at her present home since 1954. She worked as a school nurse for many year until her retirement. Mary was also an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and participated in their various functions. She is survived by her son, George T. Poole III, Tim, granddaughter Melissa Rhodes (Christopher), and her great grandchildren Eliza and Toby. She is also survived by her sister Irene Gloyd, nephews Larry and Mike Gloyd, nieces Nancy Gloyd Giddens and Linda Baxter Cole as well as many grand and great grand nieces an nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband George, brother Robert Baxter, daughter-in-law Karen Poole and nephew Mark Baxter. Although her life had taken her so far away she always made it a point to return to her home town to visit her family and friends and has donated several personal WW II items to the Portage WW II History Museum.
