Lyla Marie Schultz, age 89, of Merrimac, WI passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026 She was born on February 5, 1937, the daughter of Dorothy and Thaddeous Pearson. Lyla graduated from Baraboo High School in 1955. As an adolescent, Lyla enjoyed skating, Music, dancing, art and nature.

Lyla married Willis Delmar Schultz on August 5, 1955, they honeymooned in South Dakota, a trip Lyla remembered fondly. Together they had five children. They were married for 58 years before Willis passed on May 4, 2014. They both worked on their dairy farm for more than 50 years and raised their family in the Township of Caledonia. Lyla stated they had frequent contact with neighbors and pointed out that they were always willing to help out when needed.

In her younger years, Lyla taught Sunday School at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Lyla is quoted as saying that she and her family “got rich with God’s help” and placed great emphasis on serving the Lord. It was important to Lyla to always emphasize the impact the Lord made on her life as well as her family’s life.

Lyla Participated in Home and Community Education (HCE). American Lutheran Church Women (ALCW), as well as 4H. The last of her years were spent living in the Assisted living center in Montello, WI where she enjoyed participating in many activities they had to offer. Lyla was a kind soul with a spunky personality. She was always good at sending greeting cards to people for different occasions.

She is survived by her five children; Susan (Robert) Riegel; Glenn Schultz; Larry Schultz, Sara Schultz-Caston; Alvin (Tracy) Schultz. Two sisters Rita Preuss, Ida Gannon and a brother George (Faye) Pearson. Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, good friend Lorretta Corning. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband a daughter-in-law Lori Lee (Ellis) Schultz a son-in-law Gary Francis Caston.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, in the Immanual Lutheran Church in Merrimac, WI. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will follow the service at the Zastrow Cemetery.
