Obituary

Leslie Delbert "Les" Mountford, age 84 years of Portage died on Sunday, September 5, 2010 at the Divine Savior Extended Care in Portage. He was born on June 25, 1926 in Moundville Township to William and Evelyn (Pfuehler) Mountford. Les enlisted in the United States Army in August 1944, participated in the Battle of the Bulge where he received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. On January 31, 1948, he was united in marriage to Joyce Hanson at the Methodist Church in Portage. Les worked as a mechanic for GTE from which he retired in 1989, he then worked as a machinist for Winkler Auto. He was an avid fisherman tying his own flies, enjoyed hunting, camping and being very inventive fixing things. Survivors include His Wife - Joyce of 62 years, Daughter - Shelley Maginnis of Wild Rose, Son in Law - Roger Klaila of Morrisonville, 3 Grandchildren - Jennifer, Matthew and Megan; 3 Brothers - Eugene Mountford of Montello, Clifford (Rita) Mountford of Endeavor and Douglas "Jack" Mountford of Dalton and other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, a Daughter - Sandra "Sandy" Klaila and a Sister - Doris "Dolly" Stanton. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Picha Funeral Home, Portage with Pastor Glenn White officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Portage. Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home, Portage on Thursday from 10 AM until 11 AM. Service Details.
