Obituary

Leo Ronald Cottine passed away peacefully on April 25, 2015. Leo was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 6, 1927 to Rudy (Horton) Cottine of Briggsville, WI and Leo M. Cottine of Collodi, Italy.  From an early age, Leo began traveling north to the family farm in Briggsville.  He spent summers at the farm and truly loved farming.   Leo was in the Seabees during World War 2 stationed in the Pacific, and operated various types of heavy equipment building roads and runways.   He was a very proud and active 70 year member of the American Legion Post 329 and was recently honored.    Leo was a fulltime farmer for many years.  He owned and operated Cottine Trucking, worked as a heavy equipment operator for Schultz Excavating until 1971 and for the City of Wisconsin Dells. He retired from the City in 1988 and started Cottine Trucking again in 1990.  He continued to farm and operate Cottine Trucking until 2013.   Leo enjoyed traveling, cutting wood, playing baseball, the Packers and the Cubs, tending a four acre garden, flowers, birds, dogs and nature in general.  Leo believed in hard work and taught this valuable lesson to his children. Leo was married to Helen (Poppie) Cottine in 1948 and they had four children; Nancy (Mike) Gerike, Betty, Janice and Dale.  Leo remarried in 1976 to H. Gail Underhill.  Gail had four children from a previous marriage; Kim of Wyoming, Kelly of Texas, Mark (Eileen) of Milwaukee, and Kay of Montello. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, both wives and great grandchild Caroline.  He is survived by his brother Craig (Mary) of Briggsville, his four children and four grandchildren Annette, Jason, Mindy and Tony, seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.  Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday April 28, 2015 in the Briggsville United Methodist Church with Pastor Julie Wilson officiating.
