Obituary

Kimberly Louise Campbell, 49, passed away unexpectedly on September 2, 2024, in Wausau, Wisconsin. Born on May 20, 1975, in Sun Prairie, WI, Kim spent her life spreading joy and laughter to those around her.

Kim married the love of her life, Scott Chilson on April 21, 2007. Together, they made their home in Portage, Wisconsin with their many beloved pets. There was never an animal that Kim did not love unconditionally, and they opened their home to several rescue fur babies who might not have had a chance to find a forever home otherwise.

Kim dedicated her career to customer service, working at State Capital Credit Union, Summit Credit Union, and most recently, Waunakee Remodeling. Her natural ability to connect with people made her excel in her profession and brought warmth to every interaction.

Kim's vibrant personality was evident in her love for holidays, with Christmas and the Fourth of July being her favorites. Her enthusiasm for life was infectious, and she had a particular fondness for fireworks, "happy" flowers, and candy. She was known as a master at cell phone puzzle games, the unofficial world record re-watcher of Jurassic Park and for turning her style of playful procrastination into an artform. On any occasion that involved exchanging gifts, Kim could be found moving around the room to be close to whomever the next person was to open a present, sharing in the excitement of even the simplest new prize. When it was her turn, she attacked gift wrap with almost supernatural zeal. The same could be said about candy wrappers and pull tabs. Kim was a radiant soul and gave uncountable cherished memories to the people she touched.

Kim's kindness and care for her community were unparalleled. No one was a stranger to her, and she had a unique ability to make everyone feel safe. Her final act of kindness was the lifesaving gift of organ and tissue donation. May she live on not only in our memories but also through the lives she has touched with her generous gifts.

Family was central to Kim's life. She is survived by her loving husband, Scott Chilson; her mother, Anna Campbell; sisters Tina Campbell, Sue (Todd) Holznagel, and twin sister, Kerry Florin; nieces: Ashley, Skylar, Anna, Julia, and Gabriella; and her nephew, AJ. She was preceded in death by her father, Gary Campbell.

An open house to celebrate Kim's life will be held from 11 AM to 6 PM on September 22nd, 2024, at Kratz Funeral Home, 302 E Conant St., Portage, WI 53901.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, contributions in Kim's memory can be made to Columbia County Humane Society, The Lodi Vet's Second Chance Fund, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The United Way, Conover Fire & Rescue Department, or a charity of personal choice that reflects Kim's spirit and generosity.
