Kay Ellen Messer, age 62, died at her home on Thursday, January 22, 2015. Kay was born on March 22, 1951 in Portage, WI to Roger and Gladys (Werner) Krueger. She graduated from Pardeeville High School and went on to a career with the city treasury for Baraboo for many years before becoming the Portage City Treasurer. She married her husband of 42 years on August 5, 1972 and together they worked the family farm and raised two daughters. They enjoyed many years of snow mobiling, trap shooting, and attending various band, sporting, 4-H and other activities in which their daughters were involved. Kay enjoyed bowling and was an avid Badger and Packer fan. In retirement, she worked with a volunteer program providing tax services for the local community, helped with field work, enjoyed boating, ATVing, and traveling with her husband, and spending time with friends and family. Kay is survived by her husband Marv of Portage, two daughters Melissa (David) Roth of DeForest and Jennifer (Christopher) McQueen of Pardeeville, WI; one grandson Nolan Roth and one granddaughter Baby Roth due in May. Also surviving is one sister Lori Schumann (Ken Grigsby) of Pardeeville, WI; three brothers, Jack (Sharon) Krueger of Pardeeville, WI; John (Doreen) Krueger of Waupaca, WI and William (Karen) Krueger of Birmingham, AL and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, Jan 27, 2015 in the United Methodist Church in Portage, WI; Rev. Tom Countryman officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 - 7pm on Monday Jan. 26, 2015 at the Picha Funeral Home in Portage and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
