Obituary

Karl Dean Treadwell, age 83 years, of Portage, died on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Divine Savior Extended Care on Portage. He was born on November 18, 1926 in Topeka, Kansas to Ira and Clara (Watson) Treadwell. Karl attended East Topeka JR High, Capital Catholic and Washburn High Schools. He graduated from US Armed Force Institute. On November 16, 1946, Karl was united in marriage to Helen Ramsey at the Presbyterian Church in Wisconsin Dells. He was a member of the Portage Presbyterian Church, ordained a Ruling Elder of the church in 1973, serving 8 years on the church session and 4 years as Sabbath School Teacher. Before going into the US Army he was employed by the Missouri Pacific Railroad. After service, he worked at the Portage Daily Register as composing room foreman and later for Penda Corporation in Portage before retiring in 1988. Karl served in the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a past member of the Wisconsin Campers Association and the Portage Curling Club. Survivors include Daughter - Michelle (Richard) Jesse of Appleton; 2 Grandchildren - Madeline Hope Jesse and Benjamin Dean Jesse; and nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a son - Gary, brother - Ira, step father, step brother and step sister. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the Divine Savior Extended Care Center, 715 West Pleasant St. Portage with Rev. David Hankins officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Big Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army. Service Details.
