John F. Slepicka, age 87 years of Portage died on Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus. He was born on December 20, 1926 in Milwaukee to John and Viola (Rhode) Slepicka. John was united in marriage to Laurel Verburgt on August 21, 1954 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Portage. He had worked for Great Northern Cold Storage Company and then for the Portage area schools as a janitor for over 20 years. John enjoyed wood carving, fishing and very proud of being a longtime blood donor. He had also served in the United States Navy during World War II. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Laurel of Portage, 4 sons, John (Lois) Slepicka of Endeavor, James (Sandra) Slepicka of Rio, Jerry (Theresa) Slepicka of Endeavor and Joseph (Christine) Slepicka of Portage, 7 grandchildren, Jennifer Desjarlais-Tomlinson, Keith Desjarlais, Diana Beckius, Jimmy Slepicka, Bayli Boehm, Bradley Slepicka and Jessica Slepicka, 6 great grandchildren, Mark, Hawken, Kylee, Josie, Indiana and Gemma, aunt Audrey Evinrude of Weyauwega, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jeanette Vergurgt. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 1:00 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Portage with Father Gary Krahenbuhl officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Portage. Friends may call at the church on Friday from Noon until 1:00 PM. Service Details. Visitation
