Alvin "John" Leeg, age 85 of Portage, Wisconsin passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at his residence with his loving daughters by his side. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Picha Funeral Home in Portage with Gloria Stubitsch officiating. Burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery in Portage with military honors. Visitation will be held at Picha Funeral Home on Tuesday from 12 Noon until the time of service at 2 p.m. John was born July 16, 1930 in Portage, Wisconsin the son of Alvin and Emily (Norris) Leeg. He graduated from Portage High School in 1949, where he participated in football, basketball, track, and was class president for two years. He furthered his education at U.W. Stout. John joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and was stationed at Burtonwood AFB in England, where he repaired aircraft until 1954. He returned to Portage and worked at Gisholt Machine Company in Madison as a service engineer. During his time at Gisholt, he travelled throughout the United States and Puerto Rico performing service and installation of balancing and packaging equipment. He left Gisholt Machine Company to work at Leeg & Thuss Electric Co, a business established by his father in 1928. John took ownership in 1972 and he owned and operated the business until his retirement. John married Sandra Katherine Leeg on June 8, 1957 and they raised three daughters. John enjoyed boating on the Wisconsin River, snowmobiling around the Portage area, and sailing his Catalina 22 on the waters of Door County. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandra; and sister, Betty Hilbert. He is survived by his three daughters; Linda (Hesham Khater) Leeg of Cupertino, California; Sarah Leeg of Owasso, Oklahoma and Anna Leeg of San Francisco, California; six grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.
