PORTAGE - Joan Foley, age 84 of Portage, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. Joan was born June 20, 1931 in Superior, Wisconsin, the daughter of Joseph and Berdie (Trojnick) Ryan, Jr. A 1949 graduate of Cathedral High School, Superior, she married Thomas S. Foley in Superior, Wisconsin, in August of 1955. Joan received a B.S. from Wisconsin State College, Superior. She spent 25 years as a teacher in Portage Public schools, receiving a Master's from UW-Stevens Point. Joan was an educator, author, illustrator, and lifelong advocate for the arts. Joan is survived by her children, Erin (Christopher Wolf) Foley of Portage, Wisconsin, Ryan (Tracy) Foley of Edgerton, Wisconsin, Shawn (Mark) Geinopolos of New Berlin, Wisconsin, and Shane (Susan) Foley of Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren, Ian, Katharine, Magdalene, Elani, Anthony, Connor, Cennedi, Lydia, Sarah, and Rebecca; a sister, Patricia King of St. Cloud, Minnesota; a brother-in-law, Eugene McGillis of Superior, and a sister-in-law, Elaine Blake of Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas; a sister, Jane Charbonneau; and a grandson, Peter Wolf. The family expresses their thanks to Home Health United, Dr. Lisa Lepeak, and Our House Senior Living. Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home in Portage on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a Service of Remembrance held at 7 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Portage Center for the Arts or the American Cancer Society.
