Joan L (Getz) Cassellius,66, formerly of Portage, WIwent to be with the Lord after a battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in Victoria, MN.   Joan was born an identical twin on July 22, 1950 in Savanna, Illinois to Jacob G and Thelma (Wurster) Getz. She was raised on the family farm in rural Savanna. Joan was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Savanna, Illinois. She attended Center Hill Elementary School in rural Mount Carroll, Illinois and graduated from Mount Carroll High School in 1968.  She continued her schooling at Moline Business School in Moline, IL and worked as a bank teller at Savanna State Bank, Mount Carroll National Bank and Kewanee National Bank. On December 20, 1980, she was united in marriage to David Cassellius in Savanna, Illinois. Their family moved to Portage, WI in 1987 where Joan was devoted to raising their four children. When all the children started school, Joan worked as a secretary/receptionist at Poynette Counseling and Psychotherapy Associates in Poynette, WI. After living in Portage for 28 years, Dave and Joan retired to Victoria, MN to be closer to their daughter's family.   Joan is survived by her husband, David, her daughter, Carey Jean(Christopher)Sangand granddaughters, Hannah and Ainsley, of Victoria, MN and stepsons, Monty Cassellius of Eau Claire, WI, and Kelsey (Diane) Cassellius and grandsons, Samuel, Benjamin, William, and Chase ofScarborough, Maine. She is also survived by two brothers, Arnold (Phyllis) Getz, Pewaukee, WI, and Karl (Crystal) Getz, Freeport, IL, her twin sister, Jean (Larry) Messmer, Savanna, IL, and her younger sister, Joyce (Dennis) Bonnet of Pearl City, IL, one brother-in-law, Michael (Lynne') Cassellius of Glenwood City, WI, one sister-in-law, Carmon (Keith) Hill of Hartland, WI, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many beloved friends.    She was preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Thelma Getz, her son, Jarrard L Law (2014), her parents-in-law Clarence and Loretta Cassellius, and brother and sister-in-law Doug and Jean Marie (Cassellius) Sumner.   A service of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Portage, WI. Rev Julie Krahn will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday May 16, 2017at Farm Bureau Hall, 811 S. Clay St. Mt. Carroll, IL 61053.Burial will follow at the Center Hill Cemetery in Mount Carroll, Illinois.
