James "Jim" E. Garetson passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, and was reunited with the love of his life, LeeAnna Faye, whom he has missed dearly since her passing in 2016.

Born on November 4, 1942, to Maxine and Paul Garetson, Jim grew up with strong family values that guided him throughout his life. He graduated from Cambria–Friesland High School in Wisconsin and went on to serve in the United States Army.

On November 9, 1963, Jim married LeeAnna Faye Matson in Sugar Grove, Illinois. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared 53 years of partnership, laughter, and unwavering love until her passing.

Jim dedicated 34 years of his career to WP&L / Alliant Energy, but the role he cherished most was that of husband, father, grandpa, great-papa, favorite uncle, and loyal friend. He was, without question, one of the most devoted family men of all time—steadfast, selfless, and always present for the people he loved.

Jim is survived by his sons: Jamie (Wendy), Brian (Bobbi), and Jeffery (Rachel) Garetson; his grandchildren: Bradlee James (BreAnna), Austin Paul, Chelsea Raye, Hanna Marie Garetson, and Trista Traut; and his great-grandchildren: Jayce, Lilyana, Quinlee, OakLynn, Macie, Milania, and Bentley, who lovingly called him their "Crazy Papa"—a nickname he adored and embraced with pride.

Jim's legacy is one of love, humor, family, and unwavering dedication. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A burial and service will be held at a later date.
