Obituary

Howard Leo Rittmann, age 91 years, of Portage, died on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at the Meriter Hospital in Madison. He was born on August 5, 1919 in Milwaukee to Louis and Frieda (Wedereit) Rittmann. He grew up in Briggsville and has lived in Portage since 1952. Howard was united in marriage to Caroline Betty Auck on May 1, 1948 at the Portage Presbyterian Parsonage. He was a Lab Operator at the Badger Army Ammunition Plant for 23 years. Howard was a member of the Portage Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge and was a sports enthusiast. Survivors include his Loving Wife and Best Friend - Caroline of Portage, Daughter - Vickie Miller of Portage; Son - Scott Rittmann (Tammy Lytle) of Briggsville; Three Grandchildren - Melissa (Chad) Hayes, Nicholas Rittmann and Kelsey Rittmann; Two Great Grandchildren - Ian and Alex Hayes; Nephew - Fred Reimers of Effingham, IL; and Special Great Niece - Carmen (Mike) Griffith of Portage. He was preceded in death by his parents and a Grandson - Matthew Lou Miller. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Portage Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Hankins officiating. Burial will follow at the Briggsville Protestant Cemetery. Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home, 302 East Conant St. Portage on Friday from 5 - 8 PM with a Masonic Service at 7:30 PM and at the church on Saturday from 10 AM until 11 AM.
