Obituary

Helen A. Treadwell, age 88 years, died on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the Divine Savior Healthcare Extended Care in Portage. She was born on January 8, 1921 in Big Springs to Robert and Alice (Evans) Ramsey. She attended the Big Springs school and finished her schooling in Madison. On November 16, 1946, Helen was united in marriage to Karl Treadwell at the Presbyterian Church on Wisconsin Dells. She was a member of the Portage Presbyterian Church and was a bible school teacher. During World War II she worked at Gisholls as a plane motor inspector at Truax Field and Camp McCoy. After the war she worked at the State School in Sparta as a 5th grade teacher and play ground inspector. In 1948, she moved to Portage and ran a daycare in her home. She was a past member of the Wisconsin Campers and was a business manager of their magazine. Survivors include her husband, Karl of Portage; daughter, Michelle (Richard) Jesse of Appleton; 2 grandchildren, Madeline Hope Jesse and Benjamin Dean Jesse; 1 sister, Ruth (Erwin) Crothers of Big Springs and by other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary; her parents; brothers, Arthur and Archie; sisters, Eva Ramsey and Nina McClyman. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 3:00 PM at the Divine Savior Extended Care Center, 715 West Pleasant St. Portage with Rev. David Hankins officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Big Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent De Paul. Service Details.
