Obituary

With heavy hearts—but plenty of warm memories and fond smiles—we share the passing of Gordon “Gordy” Eugene Podrasky at the age of 92. On May 31, 2026, we said an unexpected goodbye to a man who quietly did everything right: a devoted husband, proud dad, beloved grandpa and great-grandpa, and the steady, dependable center of the Podrasky family. Born April 8, 1934, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Gordy was the son of Richard Podrasky and Dorothy Champlain. He grew up in Lyndon Station. In 1955, he married the love of his life, Shirley, and together they built a home in Portage—one filled with laughter, five children, and decades of unwavering love. Gordy didn’t need to be loud to make an impression. He was the kind of man who showed up, rolled up his sleeves, and made sure everyone else was taken care of first. As the longtime manager of the Consolidated/Speedway Gas Station for over 20 years, he wasn’t just known for his work ethic—he was known for knowing just about everyone who walked through the door. Truly, there were no strangers in Gordy’s world, just friends he hadn’t met yet.

When he wasn’t working or spending time with family, Gordy could be found cheering on the Packers and Brewers, watching car races, or enjoying the quiet pleasures of fishing, hunting, coin collecting, and working through a word search puzzle. Gordy was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Wayne Podrasky; his daughter, Roxanne Bartz; his granddaughter, Shelby Bartz; and many other beloved family members and friends who surely welcomed him with open arms. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy: his beloved wife Shirley, just shy of 71 years of marriage; his children Gordon (Carol) Podrasky of Lincoln City, Oregon, Brenda Haynes of Aurora, Colorado, Tammy (Rick) Day of Aurora, Colorado, and Timothy Podrasky of Portage, Wisconsin; his sister Mitzi (Cliff) Plemon of Baraboo, Wisconsin. Along with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who will carry his stories, values, and quiet strength forward. Some things never end—like love, memories, and the legacy of a life that meant so much. Gordy will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever woven into the fabric of his family. Gordy’s Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, August 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Portage VFW Post #1707, located at 215 W. Collins St. Sandwiches will be provided, please kindly bring an appetizer, small side dish, or dessert to share if you wish. Gordy loved a good potluck! Cash bar available.
