Obituary

Lt. Col. Glen E. Boyle (Ret.) age 87 years of Portage and formerly of Inver Grove Heights, MN died on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. He was born on May 27, 1922 in LaSalle County, IL to Edward and Theresa (Gealow) Boyle. Glen was united in marriage on October 22, 1943 to Eleanor Sample in Alamogordo, NM; she preceded him in death on April 14, 1980, he was then married to Alice Grunke in 1983, she preceded him in death on March 3, 2008. Glen served during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a navigator of the B24 "Destiny Deb" which was shot down on April 24, 1944, suffered a broken leg and was a Prisoner of War in Romania until August of 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He then served in the Illinois Air National Guard for 21 years. Glen then graduated from the University of Illinois Agricultural Department. Glen worked for the U. S. Department of Agriculture as a livestock marketing specialist from 1958 until his retirement in 1982. He enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling to Florida, crossword puzzles, watching the Cubs, and especially going to POW and former B24 crew member reunions. Survivors include 3 children - Sandra (Don) Wintz, R. Joe (MaryJo) Boyle and Jay (Tracy) Boyle all of Minnesota; NINE Grandchildren - Tony, Terri. Eric, Kristin, Katy, Josie, Amy, Molly and Claire; FOUR Great Grandchildren - Ellie, Lauren, Erin and Sarah; Brother - Don (Justine) Boyle of Arkansas and Sister in Law - Marion Boyle of Illinois. Besides his two wives, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother - Bob. Visitation in Portage will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the Picha Funeral Home, Portage from 3 - 6 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Mount Bethel United Methodist Church in Inver Grove Heights, MN. Burial with military rites will be held at the Salem United Methodist Church, Inver Grove Heights, MN. Friends may call at the church on Friday from Noon - 1 PM. Service Details.
