Gerald "Jerry" F.W. Schmidt age 79 of Portage died on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. Jerry was born on August 12, 1939 to William and Mabel (Lee) Schmidt. Jerry married Betty Koepp on September 15, 1956 in Portage, Wisconsin and have been married for 62 years. Jerry loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and especially riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Jerry worked for ten years at Badger Ordinance and then retired form Unimin after 25 years of employment. Jerry is survived by his wife Betty; Daughters Laurie Briggs; Sharon (Dale) Rainey; grandchildren, Kim Meyers; Lisa (Robert) Hering; Jeremy Schmidt; Jessica Schmidt; Sara Schmidt; Toni (Carey) Higgins; Danielle Rainey. Six great grandchildren; brothers, Ronald (Paulette) Schmidt and William Schmidt also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, son Michael, grandson Aaron Schmidt and great grandson Tyler Furman and a son-in-law James Briggs. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage. Father Gary Krahenbuhl will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church, burial will follow the services at the St. Mary Cemetery in Portage, Wisconsin.
