Obituary

PORTAGE -- Gerald M. McTier Sr., 77, of Portage died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, at his home in Portage. Jerry/Jake was born Oct. 6, 1937, to Frank and Nellie (Dorman) McTier and was raised in Endeavor. Jerry graduated from Portage High School. He married Barbara Jean Genrick in March 1960. He worked as a carpenter for Findorff Construction for almost 40 years. He was an avid fan of Portage High School sports of all kinds. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and feeding the birds and squirrels that flocked to his yard. Most mornings he could be found at the Speedway Restaurant in Portage and the Swampside in Endeavor, discussing and solving world problems. Gerald is survived by his children, JoAnn (Peter) Felknor, Gerald (Dione) McTier Jr., and Hope (Daniel) Hoffman; granddaughters, Sydney Hooker and McKenzie McTier; and siblings Lawrence "Bud" McTier and Alice Ann Roller. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; wife Barbara; three sisters, Margaret McTier, Mary Ellen Jenkins, and Barbara Zantow; and two brothers, Dale McTier and Wayne McTier. Jake will be missed by his loyal pets, Shelby, Willie, Lucky and Boo. Jerry's family would like to thank Home Health United for their invaluable hospice care. Jerry did not wish to have a funeral, preferring that family and friends privately remember all the wonderful times they shared over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jerry's name to the Columbia County Humane Society. Picha Funeral Home (www.pichafh.com) is assisting the family with arrangements. Service Details.
