George Sherman "Shermie" Thompson, age 97 of Portage died on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Our House in Portage. He was born on January 19, 1916 in Rio to George and Emily (Erickson) Thompson.   Shermie served in the United States Army from 1940 until August of 1945. He was united in marriage to Delores Kundert; she preceded him in death on March 1, 1993. Shermie worked for the United States Postal Service for many years. He also enjoyed dancing.   Survivors include his step children, Alan (Monica) Hull of Wisconsin Dells, Diane Harrison of Helena, MT and Cheri Fay of Ronan, MT, step daughter in law, Betty Hull of Wisconsin Dells, step granddaughters, Dori (James) Wetherelt of East Helena, MT and Stephanie (Jeffrey) John of Reedsburg, and a sister Jerri Kurth and other relatives and friends. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, stepson, Lucien "Tom" Hull, brother, Ken Thompson, sister, Helen McRath and a step brother, Russell Kellogg.   Private graveside services at the Fairfield Cemetery, rural Baraboo will be at a later date.    Service Details.
