George Albert Pitman, age 90 years, of Portage, died on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at the Clemet Manor in Greenfield, WI. He was born on April 21, 1920 in Portage to Charles and Iva (Dopp) Pitman. George was a farmer and had worked at Weyenberg Shoe Factory for 28 years. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Ashley, who preceded him in death on July 5, 1963, he later married Dorothy Brewer-Atkinson on July 17, 1978. George served in the US Navy during World War II as an Aviation Ordanceman, he was a member of the VFW Post # 1707, Portage Boat Club and enjoyed hunting,fishing and gardening. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his Wife - Dorothy of Portage, 5 Children - George (Mary) Pitman of Greendale, WI, Judy Preston of Portage, Dawn (Lonnie) Sines of Portage, Jody (Kent) Brown of Portage and Laura Hayes of Portage; 13 Grandchildren; 22 Great Grandchildren; 1 Brother - Claire Pitman of Texas; 1 Sister - Betty (Bob) Hervey of Grants Pass, Oregon; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his Wife - Phyllis, Parents, Step-father - Charles Bottani, Son in law - Arnold Preston, 2 Sisters - Lola Malish and Joyce Lewis and 1 Brother - Charles Pitman JR. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2010 from Noon - 2 PM at the Picha Funeral Home, Portage. Military honors will follow the visitation.
