Galen Roger Berg, 80, of Ettrick, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at Marinuka Manor Nursing Home in Galesville, WI. He was born in Galesville on January 11, 1938, to Gerald and Selma (Husmoen) Berg. He was baptized, confirmed and a member of French Creek Lutheran Church. On September 26, 1959, Galen married Marleen Potter at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cataract, WI. They were blessed with 58 years of marriage and four children. Galen attended Gale-Ettrick High School and graduated in 1956. After high school he served in the U.S. Navy. After marrying the love of his life, Marleen, they made their home in Kenosha, WI, where Galen worked at City Lumber Company, American Motors, Twin Disc, and built many homes. In 1971, they purchased the family farm in Ettrick, WI, where he milked cows for a short time and in 1972, became the manager and later the owner of Ettrick Lumber Company, before retiring in 2005. Galen will be remembered for his love for life, hunting, fishing, traveling to all 50 states and Norway, dancing, golfing and playing cards. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his children and grandchildren's activities throughout the years. Galen was proud of his Norwegian heritage and was an active member of the Sons of Norway - Fagernes Lodge 616 and served as the District 5 Sons of Norway Youth Director. He also served on the church endowment foundation, church council, Wisconsin Lumbermen's Board of Director's and as a 4-H woodworking leader. Survivors include his wife; Marleen, daughters; Susan (Marty) Zubke, Carla (Tim) Klingfus, sons; Gene Berg (significant other, Holly Martin), Gary (AnnMarie) Berg, seven grandchildren: Benjamin (Kyla) Zubke, Philip (Kayla) Zubke, Joshua (Kelsey) Zubke, Tyler (Erica) Klingfus, Hannah Klingfus, Brendan Berg and Julia Berg. Great-grandchildren, Bowe and Nora Zubke. Siblings; Larry (Sue) Berg, Sonia (Lonnie) Manske and Renee (Ralph) Solberg. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Galen was preceded in death by, his parents; and a sister Elda Alexander. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at French Creek Lutheran Church, rural Ettrick, WI. Pastor Anna Sorenson will be officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
