Portage, WI Brunner, Frederick J "Fred"Age 94 of Portage WI passed away peacefully Monday, October 13, 2014 in St. Mary's hospital in Madison, WI.Visitation at 11am with memorial mass at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Briggsville, WI. Born in St. Paul, Mn. October 10, 1920.  Fred lived with his parents on a farm near River Falls, Wi until his marriage to Marian Knops.  They moved to Milwaukee where he worked in a plant that made fiberglass pipe for the oil fields.  Fred became plant manager and worked there until he retired at age of 62.  They then moved to Briggsville where they had a home built .  Fred continued working at both making lift trucks and then Old Milwaukee Railroad office . During this period Marian and Fred spent eight winters in Mission, TX.   They were married for 53 years until Marian's death in 1996. Five children were born to this couple and they adopted another son after taking foster babies into their home giving them three boys and three girls.  They are James (Rae) Brunner of Australia, Daughter-in-law Deb Brunner of Madison, Mary (Dennis ) Boom, of Milwaukee WI, Judy ( fiance Bob) Brunner Random Lake WI, Patty Brunner of Wisconsin Dells, Ricky ( Dulcie ) Brunner of Mauston, WI.  He is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fred is preceded in death by his parents, wife Marian, and a son Richard. Fred enjoyed camping with the family, fishing, cutting and polishing semi-precious stones, wood carving and golf.  After Marian passed away Fred continued to attend the Senior clubs in Wisconsin Dells, Briggsville , and Portage.  It was at during this time that he met Bernadine  Schultz ( his "loving companion").  They eventually moved in together in Portage where they continued as active members of the senior clubs.  Fred maintained a great  sense of humor throughout his entire life and was well known for his quick wit and ability to elicit many laughs from his gifted joke telling.
