Forrest "Bud" Ashley, age 100 years, died on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at the Remington House in Pardeeville. He was born on November 1, 1908 in rural Baraboo to Russell and Jennie (Baxter) Ashley. On June 3, 1939, he was united in marriage to Marion Simonds in Baraboo, she preceded him in death on January 3, 2001. Bud worked for 44 years at the Weyenberg Shoe Factory and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific. He and his wife, Marian, owned and operated the Saddle Inn Tavern until his retirement. He was a member of the Portage VFW, past member of the Tavern League of Columbia County, past member of the Elks Club of Portage and a member of the Portage United Methodist Church. Survivors include one son, Terry (Judy) Ashley of Portage; 3 grandchildren, Terry Jr, Tom and Linda; 6 great grandchildren, and one sister, Marvel Rampanelle of Portage, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank, George, Charles and James; sisters, Dorothy, Doris, Ruth, Aileen, Phyllis and Leona. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Picha Funeral Home, Portage with Rev. Tom Countryman officiating.
