Floyd Michael Nelson, age 82 of Portage died on Monday, September 3, 2018 at his home in Portage. Floyd was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 12, 1936 to Orville and Mary (Hoder) Nelson. Early in life Floyd moved to Newport Township, Wisconsin, and then to county highway O in Lewiston Township. He graduated from Portage High School in 1954. Floyd then joined the United States Navy in 1955 and was stationed in Memphis, TN. Floyd was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1959 and later discharged from his reserve obligation in 1963 as a Petty Officer 3rd class after receiving the good conduct medal. Floyd was employed by the Wisconsin State Patrol for ten years. He later worked for Combustion Engineering as a purchasing agent until his retirement. This job took Floyd around the world where he met his wife, Yasini, in Indonesia in 1992. They married on September 8, 1993 then returned to the United States in 1994. Floyd had his last of ten children, Angelica, on May 4, 2000 at the age of 63, just 8 days before his 64th birthday. Floyd loved his family above everything. He also enjoyed gardening and reading. He was a devout believer in Jesus Christ his entire life. Family always came first, then his country. Floyd was proud to be an American. Floyd is survived by his wife, Yasini, Portage, WI; Children, Michael (Julie) Nelson, Portage, WI; Robert Nelson, Chandler, AZ; Tammy Wick, St Paul, MN; Sharon (Robert) Pristash, Cave Creek, AZ; Gregory (Robyn) Nelson, Gilbert, AZ; Jon (Stacie) Nelson, Portage WI; Anthony Nelson, Charleston, SC; James Nelson, Portage, WI and Angelica Nelson, Portage WI. Grandchildren Micah Nelson, Alex Nelson, Justin Wick, Patrick Wick, Andrew Wick, Nancy Marino, Taylor Nelson, Emma Nelson, Brie Nelson and Jared Nelson. Eight great grandchildren. Two brothers Charles Nelson and Harold Nelson and a sister Nora (Marty) . Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Karen Marie Nelson, a brother Ollis Nelson; a sister Lillian Gloyd and his former spouse Nancy (Campo) Nelson to whom he was married for nearly 30 years before her death in 1988. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in the St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, WI with Father Gary Krahenbuhl officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2018 and the Kratz Funeral Home in Portage, WI.(www.kratzfuneralhome.com) and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Church. Burial will follow at the St Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Service Details.
