Florence L. Hamele, was born on October 4, 1919 in Portage, the daughter of Edward and Margrierite (Ebert) Scherbert. She passed away peacefully at home with children by her side on Monday, January 2, 2012 at the age of 92; where Florence and Kayo raised their 11 children. She married John F. "Kayo" Hamele at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Portage on January 7, 1939; he preceded her in death on June 20, 1973. Survivors include her children - Katherine (John) Flahive of Watertown, WI, Patricia Hamele of Rice Lake, WI, Robert (Vicky) Hamele of Pardeeville, John Hamele of Poynette, Peggy Brown of Portage, Thomas (Phyllis) Hamele of Portage, Joseph (Linda) Hamele of Oxford and Jeri Kindred of Portage; 23 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and a sister in law - Joyce Scherbert of Portage. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by their daughters - Joni Close and Rita Ulferts, their infant daughter - Mary Kay, her eldest son - James, brothers - Harold Scherbert and Kenneth "Nook" Scherbert. Florence was a member of the Mayflower Lodge and Women's Railroad Club. She picked up a hobby late in life, a Packer Backer, she enjoyed the games and sharing them with her daughter, Peg. By Florence's request there will be no service, but a celebration of life at Dino's Restaurant, Portage on February 18, 2012 from 2 -5 PM. Memorials may be made to the Portage Fire and Police Department in memory of Florence. After Glow I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.
