Obituary

Donald Leslie Kiefer, age 86 years, died on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena where he has resided since September 2006. He was born on November 17, 1923 on the family farm in rural Dalton, the son of George and Capitola (Sherman) Kiefer. Donald married, bought the farm and worked it his entire life. Besides farming he also worked as a stagecoach driver at Fort Dells in Wisconsin Dells for several years. He had a great love for animals and greatly enjoyed flowers. While in the nursing home, he looked forward to the mail from family and friends. Donald was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Survivors include - two daughters - Linda (Wayne) Cornford of Pardeeville and Carolyn (Marv) Lund of North Pole, Alaska; step son - Donald (Karen) Wuerch of Alden, New York; step daughters - Jean (Paul) Schoenike of Monroe, WI and Judy Roblee of Plymouth, WI; 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; 3 sisters - Pearl Barden of Dalton, Juanita Schutz of Baraboo and Violet Manthey of Portage; Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Vernetta Wuerch, granddaughter - Tamera Cornford, 3 brothers - Clayton, Ralph and Vern Kiefer; 4 sisters - Georgetta McElroy, Gladys Bulgrin, Genevieve Manthey and Verla Dolgner; and son in law - Bruce Roblee. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, Portage with Rev. Alan Boeck officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Portage. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9 AM until 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church. A special thanks to his close neighbors for all there help in keeping Donald in his home those last years. To William McElroy for the many years of taking care of his lawn.
