Donald Sheldon Hill, age 64 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena. He was born on January 26, 1947 in Portage to Harold and Lorraine (Russell) Hill. Donald has resided in Columbia County, Wisconsin for most of his life - living in Rio, Columbus, Fall River, rural Pardeeville and Portage. He spent his school years in Portage and was a proud member of the Class of 1965. His class alumni get togethers meant the world to him. Donald's most recent employer was AMPI in Portage, where he worked for 27 years until his retirement in April 2009. Donald was an avid turkey and deer hunter. He cherished all the years spent at his grandmother's farm in Fort Winnebago from the time he was a boy. He also closely followed the Badgers, Brewers and Packers. Donald was a friend to many and an enemy of none. Friendships followed him for a lifetime - whether a casual friend, friend of a friend, rehabilitation worker, doctor, counselor or family - everyone mattered to Don. Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Portage; parents, Harold and Lorraine Hill of Portage; sister, Corrine (Russell) Meier of Monroe; nephew and nieces, Joshua (Zoe), Melissa and Michelle all of Monroe; in-laws, Karen (Clifford) Vohs of Portage, David (Jean) Drabek of Rockford, IL, Dale (Jean) Drabek of Beaver Dam, Lynn (Jerry) Foley of Eden Prairie, MN, and Loretta (Kenneth) Frank of Fairfax, MN; nieces, Tanya (Matthew) Breneman of Young America, MN, Abby Drabek of Portage, and Renee Drabek of Beaver Dam; also by Susan Drabek of Portage; and by several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins with whom he was very close. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his Aunt Thelma and his Uncle Sheldon. Don and his wife Barb both considered themselves blessed by their friend Mary Ellen Zuther who took over the stewardship and ownership of his "beloved farm land" and hunting paradise inherited from his Uncle Sheldon. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 1:30 PM at the Portage United Methodist Church, Portage with Rev. Tom Countryman officiating. Burial will follow at the North Marcellon Cemetery, rural Pardeeville. Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home, Portage on Saturday from 4 - 7 PM and at the church on Sunday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM.
