Obituary

Donald H. Barton 86 of Portage, WI is now in the arms of The Lord. Donald passed away peacefully at Montello Care Center in Marquette County, Wisconsin on March 8,2020. He was born on October 23rd, 1933 near Big Springs, WI, in the town of New Haven to Roy and Clara (Bell) Barton. Donald was united in marriage to Carol Ann Sines on July 26, 1952 at The First United Presbyterian Church in Portage; they were married for 63.5 years until her death on January 19,2016. Donald served in the U.S. Army & was deployed to Korea. He was an expert marksman, worked in communications & also trained as a helicopter mechanic. Don worked as a union bricklayer until his retirement. The couple spent their winters going to Florida many years before retirement & then they changed their winter home to be in Rockport, Texas, but always returning to WI in the spring. Don was an avid fisherman, hunter, and loved to rebuild cars (his biggest accomplishments were a 1963 Chevy Impala convertible where he had to remove the damaged front-end/frame and weld a replacement on to the front to make the car complete. He took his wife and two children on a trip out to Washington state driving though Glacier National Park in Montana in that car. He also bought a 1946 Hudson (about 1965) and replaced the original motor with a 392 Chrysler Hemi. We still have this car today, minus the Hemi) and also built model airplanes and model boats and even converted a 1957 Ford school bus into a camper that was taken on a fishing trip to Canada about 50 years ago with a total of 9 including his son, brothers-in-laws, nephews, great uncle and father-in-law, those stories are still being told today. He was very talented in so many things and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle. He had a great sense of humor and making many jokes. One was with his daughter where she advised she thought her gas tank was leaking. He jokingly told her she could still drive the car but if she seen the sun rising in her rear-view mirror, she should get out of the car. Another time just a few days prior to his death, his oldest granddaughter was helping remove an eyelash where she had to reach over him. As she did, he snorted at her, startling her as he acted like he was going to take a nibble of her hand. He also called his granddaughters в??dingy' from time to time to get a rise out of them. Donald is survived by his brother, Lyle Barton of Packwaukee, WI, sisters-in-law Evelyn (Ernest) Barton of Portage, WI, Lila (Robert) Barton of Wyocena, WI and Dorothy (Lawrence) Barton of Lakeland, FL, Mary (Arlen) Myers, Beverly (Sam) Sines, Lura (Edward) Gessner, brother-in-law Lonnie (Dawn) Sines and sister-in-law Char and brother-in-law (Chuck) Walker, his daughter Cindy Becker of Reedsburg and his son Rusty (Susan) Barton of Portage, WI, granddaughters Sabrina Waydick (Jason Perry)  of Wyocena, WI, Cassandra Barton of Rio, WI, and Stephanie Barton (Casey Roll) of Packwaukee, WI.
