David James Hertzfeldt age 71 of rural Ettrick, WI. Passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

David was born in La Crosse to Clarence and Marie (Kurth) Hertzfeldt on February 11, 1955.

David graduated from Melrose-Mindoro in 1973 then went on to work road construction, later hauled chickens, then back to road construction. He retired in July of 2021.

After retirement David cut wood day in and day out. He loved to cut wood and be outside. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

David began dialysis in February of 2025 and did home dialysis for almost a year and a half.

He loved spending time watching his grandkids in their sports.

David Married Pat Herried (Sterner) on February 28, 2004, and made their home in rural Ettrick.

David is survived by his wife Pat, Daughter Jackie (Matt) Repaal of Holmen, son Matt (Kelly) Hertzfeldt of Alkins, Iowa, stepdaughters Bobby Bishop of Blair and Jean (Chad) Powell of Lacrosse. Brother Larry (Bobbie) Hertzfeldt, Ettrick, sisters Marie Bronsky, Kenosha and Sharon Hertzfeldt, Ettrick. Grandchildren Carter and Chase Repaal, Lexi and Tanner Hertzfeldt, Eric and Lexi Iverson, Bristol Bishop and Chance Powell. Great grand kids, Weston and Hadley Iverson.

David was preceded in death by his Parents, Brothers Clarence, Tim, Duane, Donny. Sisters Joyce and Darlene.

A memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday November 20, 2026, at the French Creek Lutheran Church in rural Ettrick. Burial will be at the Brookside Cemetery, Trump Coulee, in the Town of Springfield.
