Darlene (Butt) Anderson Prest passed away suddenly on May 20, 2024 at age 89. She was the last to die of 13 children born to August and Martha Butt in Western, Nebraska. Darlene graduated from Janesville High School in Janesville WI in 1952 and then attended X-ray training at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford IL. She met and married Kenneth Anderson in 1957 and together they owned and operated Sky High Camping Resort in Portage WI. In addition to working at the campground cleaning and greeting customers, many of whom remained dear friends years later, Darlene worked at Portage Clinic, Portage Schools and Cascade Mountain Ski Resort. Ken died in 2000, and in 2003 Darlene married John Prest, who died in 2020. Darlene is survived by a lot of family: Son Brian (Karen) of Plymouth, MN and their children, Tor (Amie) and Louise (Jake) of Minneapolis, MN; Son Eric (Barb) of Portage, WI who have owned and operated Sky High since 1995 and their children: Stian of Idaho Springs, CO, Lars of Milwaukee, WI and Hanne of Boston; along with many nephews and nieces, and her special friend, Jerry Wells. Darlene's greatest joy was the love and respect of her grandchildren, attending many music and sporting events. She was very proud that all 5 grandchildren were in National Honor Society. Darlene could be found on the pickleball courts or sweeping the floor in a variety of card games with her many friends. She was very excited for her 90th birthday party later this summer. Preceding her in death were her husbands, Ken Anderson and John Prest, along with her 12 siblings and their spouses. Upon Darlene's request, her body has been donated to the University of Wisconsin for research. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Darlene's name to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Portage, WI. Visitation on Friday, May 31at 2:00 to 4:00 PM with a memorial service at 4:00 PM and Celebration of Life gathering afterwards at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
