Obituary

Clarence "Sonny" A. Neitzel, age 82, died on Monday, December 27, 2010 at the St. Clare Meadows Care Center in Baraboo. Sonny was born in Baraboo on September 7, 1928, the son of Harry & Clara (Lehman) Neitzel. He married Dorothy Klabunde Stanford on October 8, 1977. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Sonny sold insurance for Lutheran Mutual Insurance and had a newspaper/magazine distributing business in the Baraboo/Wisconsin Dells area for many years. He and his family operated Scotch Pine Roller Rink in Lake Delton for many years. Sonny retired from Broadway Travel Mart in 2007 after more than 20 years. He was well known in the area as being Santa Claus having performed this labor of love for a total of 60 years. Sonny had a deep love for his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Lake Mason Lions Club and served as their president for a total of 18 years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Portage and had served on the Board of Elders. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Wisconsin Dells, his son Scott (Kathryn) Neitzel of Madison, his daughter Deborah (Frank) Agate of Janesville, daughter Cynthia (James) Taylor of Rockford, IL, stepchildren, Dennis (Rondi) Stanford of Portage, David (Sandra) Stanford of Poynette, Joan Jensen of Wisconsin Dells, Dale (Mary) Stanford of Oxford, Jean (Kevin) Seidler of Adams, Donald (Lucinda) Stanford of Wisconsin Dells and Traci (James) Pritzkow of Wisconsin Dells; grandchildren, Wendy (Phillip) Jenkins and Pamela Bonnell of Valparaiso, IN, Brenda Bonnell of Baraboo, William and Mary Grace Neitzel of Madison and Megan Tessmer of Janesville; step-grandchildren, Charles J. Stanford of Madison, Robyn (Wayne) Przybyl of Lodi, Katie (Chris) Kleisner of DeForest, Mitchell (Amanda) Jensen of Adams, Matthew Jensen of Wisconsin Dells, Nick (Darcy) Jensen of Portage, Jacob and Jared Stanford of Oxford, Ryan and Ashley Seidler of Adams, Aaron and Justin Stanford of Wisconsin Dells, Bradley Purdy and Lauren and Lucas Pritzkow of Wisconsin Dells. He is further survived by eleven great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Phyllis Neitzel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 3, 2011 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Portage with Rev. Alan Boeck and Rev. Dan Kelm co-officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at the Walnut Hill Cemetery, Baraboo. Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home, Portage on Sunday from 4 - 8 PM and at the church on Monday from 10 AM until 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church in Portage.
