Obituary

Charles Henry "Chuck" Verburgt, age 87 years of Portage died on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at his residence. He was born on October 21, 1923 in West Allis to Peter SR and Mabel (Smith) Verburgt. Chuck grew up by Montello and has lived on the farm in the Town of Fort Winnebago since 1946. He was a dairy farmer and had worked at Manley Sand, running a crane and front-end loaders for over 36 years. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. Chuck had also served in the United States Army during World War II, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and had received the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Citation from the French Army and European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal. Survivors include 2 Sisters - Laurel Slepicka of Portage and Mabel Cadigan of Portage; 1 Brother - Thomas (Ann) Verburgt of Portage and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 Brothers - Peter JR and Martin and 2 Sisters - Chrystal Schoenbein and Marvel Akins. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the St. John's the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Montello. Service Details.
