Charles "Chuck" Rodney Smith, age 69 years, of Portage, died on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Belmont Nursing Center in Madison. He was born on December 27, 1940 in Portage to Rodney and Luetta (Haut) Smith. Chuck has lived in Portage most of his life where he was a carpet installer, semi driver, formerly owned Yellow Thunder Taxi Cab Company, and had worked for Samuel's Recycling. He also enjoyed cooking, model trains, camping and was considered a "tinkerer". Charles also served for 3 years in the US Navy on the USS Edisto. Survivors include 5 children - Pete (Victoria) Fandrich on Briggsville, Faith Georges of Evansville, IN, Daniel Smith of Georgia, Chuck (Karyn) Smith of Portage and Nicole Smith of Waupaca, 15 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, 1 Sister - Mauvereen Cannady of Portage and special friends - Gordy Ulferts and Bill Eastman. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son - Rodney, a sister - Dawn Blenis and the love of his life, Renee' Lasse. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Picha Funeral Home, Portage with Rev. Alan Boeck officiating.
